Wigner RCP won the right to host the World’s biggest fusion technology conference

The Wigner Research Centre for Physics’s team led by Dr. Gábor Veres, the Head of Plasma Physics Department of the Wigner RCP won the right to host the next ISFNT (International Symposium on Fusion Nuclear Technology) conference between 23 and 27 of September, 2019 in Budapest. There has never been a fusion technology conference in Hungary before. The last conference in plasma physics was 17 years ago in Budapest so it is a great achievement and honour. The application was presented in this year’s ISFNT in Kyoto, Japan, where the international committee found the Hungarian bid to be the best.

The Honorary Chair of the conference will be Prof. Dr. László Lovász, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Gábor Veres was asked why it is good to organize such a conference:

„First of all, because it is a huge acknowledgement to our team of engineers working in the field, and secondly because the international community sees more potential in cooperation with us and the right to organize such an event, albeit indirectly, but draws attention to the fact that it is worth to continue working with us.”

At the conference, mainly engineers who are dealing with fusion research are gathering from all around the world to present their work to other researchers and engineers in the field. This event was first organized in 1988, Tokyo, Japan.
