Tokamak engineering in Budapest

Tokamak engineering in Budapest

In the very last week of the summer (27-31 August 2018) international students from 6 countries and 3 continents gathered in Budapest for a lecture series on Tokamak engineering by guest lecturer Tom Todd.  After a quick review on fusion basics the audience could learn “How to build a tokamak?” already in the first morning. On the next days, the retired Chief Technologist of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority continued by covering design features specific to JET, ITER and DEMO, along with engineering issues of key components like poloidal field coils, error field control and diagnostics. Morning lectures were complemented by laboratory exercises and project work in the afternoons leaving the evenings to look at the attractions of the beautiful city of Budapest.
